Choosing Deck Chairs

If you want to give your deck a touch of style while giving your guests a place to sit, deck chairs are definitely a must. But how do you decide which sort of chairs to buy for your outdoor gathering place? The following are important considerations before you splurge your hard-earned cash:

1. What purpose do you want the deck chairs to serve? Some deck chairs are designed primarily for lounging, as evidenced by their long and flat seat area with a back tilting backward. This type of chair is best for those who intend to sunbathe outside on the deck, or at least just lie down for some relaxation outdoors. Think about this in terms of the position you need the chairs to be in: Will you be needing deck chairs that recline to a comfortable resting position? Or will you be using the chairs as upright dining chairs? Some deck chairs may be adjusted from an upright position to a reclining one, so these may be the best choice for decks that serve a dual purpose of just allowing its owners to relax in the cool night air as well as being a place for barbecue parties or cool summer dinners. However, folding chairs may add the risk of wear and tear, so if you only have one designated purpose for your deck, sticking to that for your choice of deck chairs may be wiser in the long run.
2. What shade is your other deck furniture? If you are buying deck chairs as a set with a deck table and other deck furniture, you will not have to worry about this issue, but if you happen to have other wooden outdoor furniture already in place, you may want to consider the shade, since wooden deck furniture typically comes in a few shades. Most teak chairs are brown, with shades ranging from light to dark. Also check if the chair is coated with a sealer, since that means it could stay golden or dark brown over the years; but chairs with no coating may turn gray after a few years. As such, if you want chairs that stay brown for longer periods of time, make sure they are coated with sealant.
3. Do you need the chairs to meet other criteria, such as easy storage? Many homes nowadays have limited storage space, and during the rainy months, you may opt to keep your deck chairs out from right under the rain clouds. Should that be part of your consideration, you may benefit from deck chairs that fold up or stack up for easy storage. Other considerations for storage would include whether the chairs come pre-assembled or if you need to assemble them yourself, as it may spell a difference in shipping cost, and being able to disassemble them in the future means they will be easier to store away in case you ever need to keep them for extended periods of time. Then again, if you do not foresee ever needing to store the chairs away, then you will not have to worry about this issue.

These considerations should set you out on your pursuit of finding the best deck chairs for your outdoor needs.
